March 24, or, the last full day in South Africa

Saturday, March 24 was our last full day in South Africa.  And what a day it was!

We met our tour director/driver at 8:00a.  Then we were off to the Cape of Good Hope.  It was amazing to stand in a place that I have heard about pretty much my entire life.  The wind was brutal, as you can see in the picture, but it was so worth it.

We then went to Cape Point, and from there to Boulder Island to see South African penguins!  They were so cute.  They didn’t do a whole lot when we were there, but were hanging out on the beach in the seaweed.

From there we went to a cute town for lunch (argh, the name just left me.  Will update when I remember), and I found a place that sold yarn, so I bought myself some gorgeous bamboo yarn.  I plan to make myself a scarf as a souvenir.  :)

We then explored a couple of wineries and had tastings and it was perfectly lovely.  What a great way to end this trip!

Last night Martha and I finished our souvenir shopping at the mall on the Waterfront, and had a tasty seafood dinner.  After eating those prawns I am spoiled for regular shrimp back home.

Speaking of home, we’re going to be there tomorrow.  The shuttle from the hotel to the airport leaves at 3:00p.  We go from Cape Town to Joburg, and then back to the States.  Which means that soon I will be snuggling my kitties again!!  (And as requested, I will post a pic of them when I get back home.)

I just realized that this might seem sparse compared to some other entries.  Perhaps I’ll add more from home or type more at one of the airports.  For now, I’m pretty much exhausted in the best possible way.

  1. I think that the penguins were doing what they do best…hanging out! Did any of them try to follow you around? They do that sometimes on nature shows.
Yay! You found a yarn shop! What color did you get?
Hope to talk to you soon…tomorrow!!
